June 2013 Starlooks Starbox - Unboxing and Review

A few days ago, I realized I completely forgot to do a blog post for my June Starbox... so needless to say, this post is very very late! The theme for the June box was Modern Warhol and this was also the anniversary box.

I liked the design of the outer box this month but the contents were a little boring... especially for the anniversary edition.

1. Eye Pencil in White // 2.4 g // $12

We received a white eyeliner. I find the quality of the Starlooks eyeliners to be decent, but I've been having major smudging issues with my Starlooks eye pencil in black so that did not make me happy. Discovering you spent an evening out looking like a raccoon is not the most pleasant feeling. These eye pencils are a bit hard when you first start using them so I like to break the tip off and run the eyeliner on a paper towel a few times to soften it up before i use it on my eye. I don't really like the look of white eyeliner on my waterline (a little too stark) so I don't think I'll be reaching for this too often.

2. Precision Eye Definer Pen in Black // 1.0 g // $16

This is a black felt tip eyeliner. I had never tried this type of eyeliner before so I was happy to receive this. The website shows options for long tip or short tip - it looks like we received the long tip variation. This eyeliner was drier than I expected, but I haven't tried any others so I can't compare. Once applied, however, this liner stays put all day. I'd be interested in trying some other felt tip liners down the road!

3. Bronzer in Montego Bay // 13 g // $19

The last item we received is a bronzer. This is a "super satin" bronzer, meaning it has quite a sheen to it. I like this product and I have used it both as a blush and to contour (despite the sheen). I like the glowy look it gives me when used as a blush.

As always, I also received a little crystal in the Starbox. Our little bonus this month was a peace button - most subscribers did not like this bonus, but I thought it was cute. Overall, I was definitely expecting more of a wow factor for the anniversary box. As mentioned, I thought this box was pretty boring.

// Approximate value of the products in the June 2013 Starbox: $47.00 //

Before I sign off, I also wanted to mention that, in my video, I shared my thoughts on Starlooks using white label or private label products. The gist is that I don't have an issue with it, but I do think Starlooks could have handled questions a little more gracefully. I was going to write more on this topic, but seeing as how this blog post is so late, I'm going to keep the verbiage to a minimum. I still like this subscription service; however, I'm not sure I'll stay subscribed once my pre-paid 6 months are up. I have way too many products that I need to try to use up... but we'll see.

The June edition of "Why, Marci!?" has not been posted yet so I will update this blog post when it becomes available.

Due to the lateness of this post, I have already received the July box and I am happy to report that it is much more to my liking! I will post the contents soon.

Note: Canadians who wish to subscribe to Starbox have to contact the company directly to get set up. I signed up by filling out the information on the contact form and a representative got back to me very quickly. I asked them to call me and I gave them my credit card information over the phone.

Note: I paid for the June Starbox with my own money.
